Little Bits of a Little Bit's Life

Maybe they'd have to hold each other when it rose, all organe and full and close. Maybe that's where our romantic notions about the moon first came from. Two people holding each other to keep their hearts from breaking, because everybody they knew was dying in the cold rocks and dust piles a quarter million miles away...

Neal & I had a fascinating discussion last night about living and religion. It was too wide-ranging and complicated to try to reproduce here, but the basic gist of things was that we were discussing "attachments." How people are "attached" to things, interconnected with them, if you will, and most of the time they aren't even aware of it. Not just simple things like I'm attached to my car because it takes me everywhere I go, but things like I'm attached to the grocer in Brazil - simply because I'm attached to everything in this world in a giant communion of everything and nothing.

But at the end of the discussion, we were kind of just joking around about things that we're attached to, silly stuff like chocolate and back massages. And I said something about how I hated being patient and waiting uselessly, and Neal was like, "You're attached to events. You're attached to things happening!" And he didn't mean it seriously but as soon as he said it I knew it was totally true. Not that it's either good or bad, but it was a very profound observation to make about me. I've been mulling that one over and haven't really come up with anything deeper about it, but if I do I'll let you know :)

In the meantime, do you think you're working too much if you start to dream about your work? Sling appeared in my dreams last night - I was watching TV, and an interview came on with our CEO about everything, and I was like, SIGH, and flipped the channel, and a different interview was happening with someone else. I was like BLARGH and flipped off the TV and turned on the radio, where Rush Limbaugh was spouting about the product (which he did in real life last week actually). I forget was happened after that, but I was amused when I remembered it this morning :)
