Little Bits of a Little Bit's Life

Maybe they'd have to hold each other when it rose, all organe and full and close. Maybe that's where our romantic notions about the moon first came from. Two people holding each other to keep their hearts from breaking, because everybody they knew was dying in the cold rocks and dust piles a quarter million miles away...

Hmmm, interesting blogger bug. My dashboard says - and has said for the past week - that I have 55 posts on this blog. However, I have 62. Wierd, and annoying. But whatever.

~Tidbits from Oslo~

I'm slowly being driven crazy by not having darkness at night. It's something that is just so ingrained into your body clock that it's impossible to change it. Like, it's easy to deal with shifted dark hours. But no dark hours? The mind boggles. See: the US version and the Norwegian original.

There are no Asians in Oslo. I'm not kidding; this is quite a shock to me, coming from Stanford where it seems like the whole world is Asian. It's something you notice immediately - everyone is blonde or brunnette or spiky dyed or something. There's like, no black hair. Except on black people, of which there are very very many. The Nigerian population is humongous; I'm curious to know what deep Africans see in Oslo. But apparently they see something, b/c the whole country has emigrated here. Oh, there are also some Jamaicans who are just as, if not more, dark. Hm. Anyone care to explain why they all came up north?

While we're on the subject of people, I'd just like to say that the people in Oslo are beautiful. The men, the women, the babies - they're all much better looking than Americans. And I've decided that the reason for this is that they simply look healthier. I have yet to see another girl skinnier than I am, and there are very few who are even as skinny as me (and I'm not even that skinny so that's saying a lot!). It's interesting to be considered slender again, instead of being on the average side of the line. Anyways, all the people look very active, like they spend a lot of time outdoors in the sun (which of course they do). (On a somewhat related note, the frozen food aisle in the Kiwi minipris is stuffed with frozen pizzas - no other TV dinners - just lots and lots of frozen pizzas. Hm.).

Also, Norwegians start families much sooner than Americans. Many many women my age have two children already; the stroller is so common around here that it's almost a hazard on the train. It's kind of strange to see so many young people with families already. Kind of makes me feel...I don't know, out of place or confused or something.

Ok, that's a long enough blog for now. Weekend plans? I don't know. Maybe if I get up the nerve, I'll go visit this salsa club. It looks scary and totally sketchy though...
