I totally just distracted myself for a short while with this feature I discovered on Amazon.com. They have these things called "purchase circles," which are basically just localized - or rather categorized, since they do organizations as well (like businesses and universities) - sales rankings. It's amusing to see how the book sales are totally a reflection of the local culture. For example, Silicon Valley overall is interested in pop intellectualism and food, while Mountain View is obviously a tech- and foreigner-heavy region and Sunnyvale just makes no bones about its geekiness. In the meantime, my hometown keeps itself occupied with fiction and nonsense. :)
